Miss Joyce Freeman

Miss Joyce Freeman

Joyce Freeman majored in Dance and Dramatics at Harcum College with courses in all phases of dance as well as total theatre and was placed on the Dean’s List.  She studied classical ballet at Ballet Repertory in New York City and was tested to teach by Dance Masters of America and Dance Educators of America.  She is a certified accredited teacher. 

Miss Joyce continued her education with Dance Caravan, Professional Dance Teachers of America, Dance Olympus, Serena’s Studio, Joe Tremaine Seminars and Paul Monty in New York.  She has also taken master classes in Hawaii and Maryland.  She has studied with well-known dancers including Ben Vereen, Madam Hilda Butsovia, Thalia Mara, Gene Nelson, Frank Hachett, Yurik Lowzowski, Matt Mattox, Jackie Sorensen, and Al Gilbert. 

Miss Joyce is a professional dance and competition judge and a choreographer who has choreographed more than 53 shows for theatres and schools throughout the area including Fulton Opera House, Theatre Harrisburg, York Little Theatre, Cross Keys Dinner Theater, York Valley Inn, Topasic, and many high schools.  She has also performed and had leading roles in several local theatre productions and musicals.  

She has had courses in child psychology, anatomy, stage makeup, public speaking, music theory, piano, choreography, mime, yoga, karate, fencing, gymnastics, baton, belly dance, synchronized swimming, aerobic exercise, Hawaiian dance, and self-defense. 

Miss Joyce owned and operated a dance studio in York, PA., for many years and sold the studio in 1998.  Since that time she has become a freelance instructor and choreographer.  Miss Joyce joined Studio `91 in the fall of 2001 to teach tap.
